I've seen this under high loads as well. In some instances I've had to be ready to pull the network cable and then stopping it. Applying a capture filter does help if you can only include certain traffic.
I've had better luck invoking dumpcap when high traffic loads are involved.

hello,
does this happen when you are capturing a under high traffic
load? i
have had the same experience with windows systems when the
traffic
load was very high.
it might be an option to capture via tcpdump or set a
maximum amount
of traffic before the capture automatically stops.

HI,
I installed wireshark on two
computers, both with fedora 16 linux
system.
I find it very hard to stop
capturing once you have started the
capturing. I have to click on the "stop the
running live capture" button
for many times and then suddenly the clicking works.
what is wrong with this?
thanks!
