This issue is not specific to any particular Wireshark version or Windows
version, although I am speaking from a Windows platform perspective.

When the Wireshark installer is running to upgrade from one version of
Wireshark to another, although most all other aspects of the existing Wireshark
installation are retained (filters, etc.) even though the previous version is
"uninstalled" before the new version is installed, we don't retain the user's
previous selection of "Should a desktop icon be created for V2", "Should a
quick launch icon be created for V2", "Should a desktop icon be created for
V1", "Should a desktop icon be created for V1", etc.

For users where the quick launch icons are never desireable, the fact the
Wireshark installer always defaults to having those selected (even during
upgrades, when the user's previous selections on these points could have been
known) means we have to keep re-selecting these options with every version.

Requesting that the desktop icon creation, quick launch icon creation, file
extension association and all other selections on this installer screen be made
part of the user configuration information that is saved when upgrading from
one Wireshark version to another. So that the installer can present the user's
previously-selected actions during the next future upgrade.
