Well, you might not blame us on the GTK internals, we are only using that dialog. A new GTK 2.4.13 is on the way, which might fix some of the points you mention.

BTW: In the meantime, I don't use the File Open dialog a lot, as I find it much easier to use drag and drop from the windows explorer. Of course, this is a matter of personal taste.

However, the frame detail window's scroll position is preserved under GTK2.
