...and KDE-like, although KDE 3.0 doesn't appear to have the "clear
list" item that we (and Mac OS X) have.  (Perhaps it's been added in KDE
3.1 or 3.2.)

Do later versions of Windows (NT 5.x, i.e. W2K, WXP, WServer 2003) have
a "Recent Files" or "Open Recent" menu item in an application's File
menu?  Or do they still list the items themselves on the File menu? 
Does GNOME 2.x also do that?  (I.e., are GUIs converging on the "Open
Recent" scheme?)
