I've put in changes to install the help files; it worked, at least when I built from CVS source and did a "make install".

-add help text files to packaging for other platforms (deb, rpm, ...)

Hmm. For RPM, it appears we might install Ethereal's "manuf" and Diameter dictionary files in "/etc"; perhaps they should go into "/usr/share/ethereal" instead.

If so, the help files should go into "/usr/share/ethereal/help".

I don't see anything obvious in the SVR4 packaging stuff to specify what files get installed; I assume the package is built by doing a "make install" to some directory and packaging up the stuff under that directory.

I infer from the fact that "debian/ethereal-common.files" has a line "/usr/share/ethereal/*" that a Debian package will automatically include everything that gets installed under "/usr/share/ethereal", which would included "/usr/share/ethereal/help". I don't know whether that'd include the files *in* that directory, however.
