"Bibliothek" or some similar form means "library" in a number of
languages.  When I see it in German, I usually think, "what's that French
word doing here?"

I'm guessing that you don't notice the similar connection between "liber"
and "book", in "library", because you're accustomed to this use of
"library".  At least, that's the way it seems to work for me.
