I'm cc'ing a copy of your patch to the list. I think it looks good.
However, using gtk+1.1.x, the tree of preferences (Printing, Filters,
Columns) is not drawn as a tree, but as a list of properties with
horizontal lines before them. That is, I think they're supposed to look
like:

+ Preferences
|
+---- Printing
|
+---- Filters
|
+---- Columns

But on my display, it looks like this:
