I agree. But for the FDDI stuff it was a little different since it was a 
first preliminary version (even not checked in the CVS tree for your first 
patch, and never delivered in tar version), so you should expect more work 
of the original author and send patch directly to him before checking in 
your changes. But forget it, they are in the right direction.
