Thanks for the reply ... I tried installing "snmp-mibs-downloader" and it fails (same/similar error a with the smi libs...). I tried to resolve it with " sudo dpkg --configure -a" as I found via a google, it also failed with a similar error. As you suggest, my ubuntu must be broken. I send an email on the ubuntu users group to see if I can get this resolved first ... --- sudo apt-get install wireshark snmp-mibs-downloader Reading package lists...
