My guess is that you are attempting to capture packets from the wrong interface. Most likely the default interface is set to something like, "Adapter for generic dialup and VPN capture" instead of the capture interface you're interested in capturing packets from.
Take a look at "Capture -> Interfaces" and try capturing from the correct interface. If you want to change your default interface, go to "Edit -> Preferences -> Capture -> Default Interface -> (make selection) -> OK"

Im running WireShark wim 32-1.2.7 and i can see the IP it says IP unknown but i will be online at that time on the capture window and i can see any processes running the window is blank.
