I talked about zip in particular. In a more general sense, I'm not a big
fan of tar.gz/tar.bz2 either. Anything that not only compresses but also
archives. It makes inline viewing rather unpleasant. Just compress the
stuff with e.g. gzip or bzip2.
It's interesting that you mention the wiki page though: Did you read the
"Dos and Don'ts" section?

I hope these people have by now opened tickets with the respective
vendors.
