I would love to see Pioneer's Pro DJ Link protocol (applicative) supported by
Wireshark!
It is a protocol that enables sharing music and metadata from one source like a
USB flash drive across all Pioneer players that are part of the network.
Originally intended to avoid having multiple USBs with the exact same content
to be plugged on all players, it has evolved and now you can directly add a
laptop to the network and browse your music collection from the player.
Adding a Link-enabled mixer to the set-up adds metadata awareness to said mixer
and allows the mixer effects to synchronized on-tempo, as well as other
gimmicks.
Finally, they have a "AutoIP" feature that assigns IP addresses to all players
in a Pro DJ Link network whenever a DHCP server is not available.
It is extremely popular within the pro DJ scene. Pioneer is the leading brand,
and 90% of majors club and festivals are using Pro DJ Link-enabled Pioneer
set-ups. That is why it would be so nice to have Wireshark support it!
Enclosed is some capture file. The laptop's interface was directly connected to
a unique CDJ-2000nxs2 player. Pioneer's Rekordbox software was running (that's
like the "iTunes for DJs", where you analyze, tag and then export your
collection with Pro DJ Link). I did no effort of anonymization (e.g. hostname)
but I don't feel like anything is going to happen to me...
