As noted by Luis Ontanon at
https://www.wireshark.org/lists/wireshark-users/200708/msg00071.html, the
current MATE examples use a long-obsolete format.  This has been encountered by
other users too (See
https://ask.wireshark.org/questions/931/mate-failed-to-configure-when-starting-with-webmate-enabled,
for example), but was never reported as a bug.

The MATE examples that need to be rewritten comprise at minimum those in
plugins/mate/examples/, namely call.mate, mms.mate, pasv_ftp.mate, tcp.mate and
web.mate.  In addition https://wiki.wireshark.org/Mate/Tutorial should be
updated as well, along with the web.mate example posted on that page.
