Wireshark is complaining because a field is being registered incorrectly.  It
has been issuing a warning about such invalid fields since r32549 but only
started error'ing out in r41280.

The checks in question are/were designed to detect programming errors (the kind
which cause a program to assert out).  It may be true, however, that asserting
out is not appropriate for scripting interfaces such as Lua.  If that view is
taken then the Lua interface code would probably need to duplicate these checks
and result in a Lua-appropriate error.
