Yes, that was the question, and your answer indicates that my assumption was
correct, so all my other comments apply.

Do you just need to be doing byte counting, or would being able to copy and
paste the selected bytes also help?  If the latter, than the change to
selection in the packet bytes pane could be even *more* helpful.
