Build Information:
It does not run so ... no dump of the build.

Removing old versions completely (so as not to wind up linking to an old
version of the libraries instead of the newly compiled ones), default
config "--with-ssl=/usr --with-krb5" and also tried
"--with-ssl=/usr --with-krb5 --enable-threads"

compiles and installs (Fedora 2 and 11) and when I attempt to run wireshark:

GLib-ERROR **: The thread system is not yet initialized.

though the configuration specifies:
  Use threads : no
and the default is supposedly
  --enable-threads        use threads in wireshark. [default=no]
