The fix for bug 5115 fixes things so that ^A, when typed in the filter textbox,
selects the entire filter, as was noted in that bug:

    1. Restore the functionality of <Ctrl>A and <Ctrl>X to the filter textbox.

        ...

    This is a superset of Bug 4799.

(Note, however, that Ctrl+A didn't select the whole list of packets, it marked
all the packets, which is a different operation.  We don't currently support
selecting more than one packet at a time, so you currently *can't* select the
whole list of packets.)
