At least according to

the latest X11.pkg is 2.1.4, and the version that came with 10.5.2 is between
v2.1.1 and v2.1.2, so the version of X11 in 10.5.2 is later than v2.1.1, and
v2.1.1 isn't the latest version in any case.

Did you install v2.1.1 before, or after, upgrading to 10.5.2?  If you installed
it afterwards, you went *backwards* in terms of your X11; try installing v2.1.4
(or reverting to the version that came with 10.5.2, if that's possible - Ben?).
