I wound up fixing my firewall issue, but I have a question about the trace that I captured.... The trace is from a small home LAN without much activity at the time, so the capture file is small. I see what I consider to be "many" dup-ack and out-of-sequence packets for such a small trace. The trace file contains 37 capture records and 12 of them are either dup-ack or out-of-sequence. From what I can tell, everything is working OK, but I question whether these "errors" are typical or not. Would anyone be willing to analyze the capture file for me and provide some feedback? If so, let me know and I'll either email the capture file or provide via a URL... Thanks, Jeff ------------------------------ Message: 4 Date: Thu, 17 Aug 2006 20:24:03 -0700 From: Guy Harris <guy@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: [Ethereal-users] Re: [Wireshark-users] pure HTTP capture filer? What do you mean "excluding the tpc"? If you mean "excluding the TCP", what does that mean? Do you mean "how do I define a capture filter that captures packets with HTTP traffic but doesn't capture ACK-only packets?" (HTTP runs over TCP, with some rare exceptions, so literally "excluding the TCP" would exclude HTTP as well.) For TCP over IPv4, see http://www.tcpdump.org/lists/workers/2005/11/msg00027.html for an example of a filter that will capture only TCP packets with data (i.e., no ACK-only packets). ------------------------------ Message: 5 Date: Thu, 17 Aug 2006 23:40:15 -0400 From: "Romel Khan" <rkhan@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: RE: [Ethereal-users] Re: [Wireshark-users] Export to ASCII doesn't work To: "Ethereal user support" <ethereal-users@xxxxxxxxxxxx>, "Community support list for Wireshark" <wireshark-users@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Message-ID: <54BC9D88A0ED88479402BDDA9E13EC310989C66B@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" It seems that last version of ethereal broke the ability to export parts of a capture to an ASCII text file. Is there any plan to correct this? ------------------------------ Message: 6 Date: Fri, 18 Aug 2006 03:25:45 -0500 From: randy_presuhn@xxxxxxx Subject: [Ethereal-users] Hello To: ethereal-users@xxxxxxxxxxxx Message-ID: <20060818082547.D34D5B6DD5@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="windows-1252" Important document! -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
