Well, it seems that all developers (including me) have followed Gerald Combs to the Wireshark project (same program, different name).

The last commit to the Ethereal source code repository was on 21.05.2006, so effectively the Ethereal project is dead now and I don't expect any enhancements will be made to it.

Any further development is done at: http://www.wireshark.org/, you may consider to move there and use the corresponding mailing lists instead of this one.
