Ok I downloaded and installed Ethereal 0.99 under WinXP+Sp2 together with WinPCap

After reboot I started Ethereal, went to menu 
Capture->Interface
and clicked the button "Capture" for the NIC interface to the local LAN.

Then a dialog popped up "Ethereal: Capture from ..."
Where all catured Packets are summed up.

However it lasts a couple of time (approx 2-4 minutes !!!) after this popup until
Ethereal starts really capturing packets. 

Is this normal?

Curioulsy during these 2-4 minutes I cannot stop or close this sum dialog window.

How do I know when Ethereal is ready to capture packets?
As I saw: a visible dialog window with the packets sums is NOT a suitable indicator.
