Thanks, Guy. tethereal -D works. However, the name is 50 characters long or more. The adapter was number 2 in my list but neither -i 2 or -1 2. was successful. Ethereal told me that it could not find the specified adapter. I tried using the name that shows up in the Interface field on the Capture Options page, which is only about 20 characters long, but that didn't work either. Any other suggestions? I've also thought I ought to be able to use the Task scheduler to start the Ethereal GUI if I could figure out how to set the options so, for example, it would know what capture filter to use and when to stop capturing.

AFAIK, you'll have to use the interface GUID (the strange character/number/... combination) for the -i parameter.

There is already a WishList entry (http://wiki.ethereal.com/WishList General/#16) to be able to use e.g. "-i 2", but having it on the WishList doesn't mean it will be implemented in the near future.

BTW: AFAI remember, Windows is annoyingly tumbling around the sequence of the interfaces, if you enable/disable them (which I've do quite often).
