For me, what you look for depends upon your problem. What symptoms do you
or the software vendor see? What problem you have will lead you to what you
need to capture and analyze, else you could capture a lot of useless bytes.
Although, sometimes that is the way it goes while searching for elusive
problems.

Subject: [Ethereal-users] new to network analysis
I am new to network analysis tools but not to networks themselves. I have
a network of 15 servers and 20 workstations (all Win2K) all connected via
six, 16 port linksys switches in a star configuration. A perticular
vendors software is having problems and seem to think it is a network
problem. I have downloaded Ethereal and its documention and read through
it. I would like to use it to troubleshoot any network problems. This may
turn out to be a stupid question but, the problem I have is that after I
capture all the data how do I analyze it to determine that YES, there is a
network problem and where the problem is or that NO, there is no network
problem?. i.e. what do I look for in the captured data?
Any help will be highly appreciated.
Thanks
