When you did the ping test, were you pinging the machine running WMP,
rather than the machine running Ethereal?

If so, try the no-filter test, and see what traffic shows up (although
note that, unless WMP9 uses standard protocols such as RTP/RTSP/RTCP,
Ethereal won't be able to recognize or dissect the traffic - and if it
does use RTP/RTSP/RTCP, Ethereal won't recognize the RTP traffic unless
it sees setup traffic in, for example, RTSP, although you can force it
to dissect the packets as RTP).

If not - i.e., if, in the ping test, you pinged the machine running
Ethereal - and your network has switches (including "switched hubs") or
dual-speed hubs, this might be the standard "capturing traffic on a
switched network" issue:
