A couple of suggestions:

1) There is a protocol designed for that, called ARP/RARP. This allows you
to get the resolution you want.
2) However, as to a specific utility designed for that, one of the easiest
things to do if you're on the same subnet: PING the box, then go to a
command prompt. Type <arp -a> (without the brackets), which will show you
the mac/IP addresses your machine knows.

There are more utilities out there, but that might be all you need...
