Here is the information you asked for. I am running this on a Win 2000 server (stand-alone, not PDC or BDC).
C:\>//cbtusa\macvol\users\jgaskill/.ethereal/dfilters
The remote computer is not available.
C:\>type //cbtusa\macvol\users\jgaskill/.ethereal/dfilters
The syntax of the command is incorrect.

Additional info:
I did a sniff. The network seems to be refusing to let me open a session:
If I try to save a filter, I get the following message (or similar).
Ethereal Error
Could not save to your display filters file
"//cbtusa\macvol\users\jgaskill/.etherea/dfilters"
No such file or directory exists
There are no files or directories in the ethereal folder with the names mentioned in these errors. I have tried adding folders using the names indicated in the errors and that made no difference.
Thanks in advance for any assistance/advice you can provide.

What happens if you open up a command prompt (MS-DOS prompt, or whatever
it's called on whatever version of Windows you're running) and type the
command
type //cbtusa\macvol\users\jgaskill/.ethereal/dfilters
What happens if you open up a command prompt and type the command
set
Send us a copy of *all* of the output of the "set" command.
