Ethereal-users: [ethereal-users] problems sniffing with isdn 4 linux ...
I have a problem (but don't sure ...)
1) My network configuration :

| Linux box + masquerade (via isdn4linux SyncPPP) |----| Winblow box using linux
as gateway for internet access |

2) Well now i launch ethereal on the linux box and choose the interface ippp0
for sniffing.
3) I test a telnet to an external box on the internet with the wiblow box :
telnet someone.somewhere.on.the.net:
Linux Mandrake release 6.1 (Helios)
Kernel 2.2.13-7mdk on an i586
login: someone
Password:
Last login: Sat Jan 22 17:30:14 from cyber127-3.paris.imaginet.fr
someone.somewhere.on.the.net:~$ exit
4) I stop the capture on ethereal.
5) I use follow tcp stream on the telnet session and see :
- I can see the login username and the passwd for the account in clear.
ALL WORK FINE !!!
6) i test same think BUT i telnet the external box dirrectly from my linux box
with ethereal capturing on the same interface (ippp0 SyncPPP)
- I do the same think (telnet the box enter user and passwd and exit from the
box).
7) I stop the capture on ethereal.
8) I use follow tcp stream on the telnet session and see :
- ONLY the username in clear and nothing for the passwd. :-(((((((((( !!!!!
Someone can explain me why ??? is it normal ???
