OK, I've checked in a "fix" that keeps us from crashing if you try to
filter on a field of a type on which we don't yet support filtering; it
doesn't fix it in the sense of adding filtering support for those types
- Gilbert plans to look into implementing that - but it at least causes
an error message box to pop up, rather than a core dump to pop up.

The workaround, in the current release, is "don't try filtering on time
stamps or strings".
