Did you type in a valid filename to capture to in the filename box?

Hi,

I compiled ethereal-0.6.1 OK.

Ethereal starts up OK, but when I select "tools - capture" (interface
eth0), I get the following error:

"File does not exist" "The capture session could not be initiated".

I ran an "installwatch" trace to see what was happening. It told me that
ethereal made a call to unlink() for the file "/tmp/ether01765aaa" and
received the return value -1 (no such directory). Now this file wasn't
created in the first place (because installwatch would have told be
about it), which seems to be the problem.

Now /tmp exists and is mode 777.

I am logged on as root.

My system details are as follows:

libc5 based Kernel 2.2.6 (loosely Redhat based)
KDE 1.1
gtk 1.2.0
glib 1.2.0
libpcap 0.4 (installed from source from the site you specified)
ethereal 0.6.1

Any ideas or help would be appreciated..

Thanks,

Simon Bond
