That was what I had in mind.

If, however, we only use a small fraction of the code in the libraries, we might want to copy the code (and perhaps tailor it to Ethereal - Ethereal isn't an application using SSL/TLS, it's just an application that needs to handle SSL/TLS encryption (it doesn't need an SSL/TLS library to parse SSL/TLS traffic, it already has a dissector to do that), just as, for example, it isn't an application using SNMP, it just needs to handle SNMP MIB files (it doesn't need an SNMP library to parse SNMP traffic, it already has a dissector to do that).
