FWIW I've done a pass over the Ethereal .c source files extracting "words" 
from quoted text strings and then doing some (somewhat manual)
reviewing for spelling, typos, etc.

The review found words needing correction such as: 
  lenght, accesing, adress, incomming, incrising, inacurate,
  negociation, occuring, priviliges, redunadant and so on.

I've identified corrections for about 40 source files (mostly 
dissectors) with usually one or two changes per file.

I'm happy to submit the changes. 

Given that there are about 40 files to update, what is the best way 
to submit the patches ?

(I'm not at all familiar with SVN, but I could imagine there's a way
to somehow put all the patches in one file/script).
