Obviously Joerg has augmented the wiki with some info regarding 
these vendor specific Discovery protocols.

But we now also have the new vendor independent discovery 
protocol called LLDP (Link Layer Discovery Protocol), formally 
published as IEEE Std 802.1AB-2005.   

LLDP is very similar in purpose to cdp and edp except that is 
supposed to be vendor neutral.  I now feel obligated that I should 
add my notes on LLDP to the Wiki.  

Is anyone is up to putting an empty "LinkLayerDiscoveryProtocol" 
page in place?   If so I will try to augment it this weekend (if not
sooner).

I'm not sure where in the current wiki tree might info on LLDP be 
most appropriate?  

Given the current wiki layout, I suspect that we would want a 
link from the IEEE page, but might we also want to have a 
generic  "DiscoveryProtocols" page?  On this "DiscoveryProtocols"
page we can provide links to all of various known discovery 
protocols (cdp, edp. lldp...) and also provide some of the history 
and reasoning for having any discovery protocols in the first 
place.
