i got the same problem, but solved
look at your environment settings

possibly ...\cygwin\bin is placed before .... visual studio ....
change their order

if you type link --help you will see that it is gnu link
but what nmake must call is MS link : ))


my build problem is about "sed"
toold did not come with svn update of packages
or with cygwin installation
