Ok, now I got what you mean.
But I disagree about the intended behabiour. If I don't use "Update list
of packets in real time", there won't be any packets shown in the packet
panes, until I stop the capture.
So it's really misleading to show the empty panes already at that point.
If the panes are shown, I would expect that something will appear there
while capturing, which they won't do.
Consider this case:
1) Perform a capture or read a stored capture file.
2) You see the packet panes.
3) You want to do a new capture.
4) You start the capture without checking "Update list of packets
in real time".
5) The capture starts, and all of a sudden the Welcome pane
is shown again, but you cannot do anything with it...
That's the same thing with the menu and the toolbar. I would 100% agree
that all of these have to be grayed out (insensitive), so it's obvious
they cannot be used while this capture is in progress.
I've run myself into this problem: while doing a capture clicking on the
menu and wondered why nothing happens.
I don't currently know if it's possible to disable the menu, toolbar.
But if it's possible, it should be done (sorry, but limited time to do
it right now).
