Well, at least I now understand the reasoning...  However, it still
seems you are fixing a problem using a method that effects everyone
when the reality is only a small number of people might actually have
the problem...

How about test for a broken list (say the one that NetSight uses) and
alter the default iff [sic] that bad value is present.
