That's not "making the time format faster", it's "implementing a virtual clist", one side effect of which would be that changing the time format would be very fast.
One of the changes needed for that is the one I made recently, but I also need to make random access to gzipped files fast; once that's done, I then have to finish the work on the virtual clist widget itself.
