The bug mentioned in that message *only* affects the "Protocol Properties" menu item - it causes it to display the wrong page for some protocols.
It does not affect the interpretation of preference settings, nor does it affect the "Preferences" dialog in any other way, and it doesn't cause any problems with non-protocol preference settings. 

Were you thinking of some other bug?
