Maybe what this really indicates is a documentation bug.  The current
behavior *is* somewhat mysterious when it strikes.  How about a prominent
notice in the documentation:

	By default, Ethereal will attempt to look up names for captured
	IP addresses.  If you have no DNS server, or if your capture
	includes packets from hosts whose names are not maintained
	locally, you may experience unreasonable delays before the
	captured data are displayed.  You may change this behavior by
	deselecting "Enable network name resolution" under "Name
	resolution" in the preferences editor (Edit | Preferences) or
	by altering the value of 'name_resolve' in your Ethereal
	preferences file.  (See FILES in the Ethereal man page for the
	location of the preferences.)
