Yes, you missed the patch that was sent 1-2 weeks ago to fix that problem :-))
Basically, the problem is with the configure check: gcc 3.1 emits a warning
that the old gcc didn't and configure mishandles the result. The patch
fixes the reason for the warning.
Please check out Ethereal from cvs and the problem should be gone. In case
you can't/won't do this, please let me know and I'll dig out the patch from
the list archives and send it to you.

I found out that "pro" means "instead of" (as in proconsul). Now I know
what proactive means.
