I think you have correctly analyzed the need to separate the collection
of data from the display. I like the idea of a low priority thread.
What I would like to see is some simple way for developers to select
packets and fields for analysis so I could "easily" create a graphing
utility module and tell it, "Select only IP packets from 1.2.3.4 to
5.6.7.8 type TCP and plot segment size vs time" or more interestingly
for some of my applications, "Select only IP packets from 1.2.3.4 to
5.6.7.8 and plot number of fragments vs time".
I guess what I'm saying is that the ability to easily interface the data
collection aspects with the existing filters might be very useful.
