I have heard that automake 1.5 is incompatible with automake 1.4;
Ethereal is set up to work with automake 1.4.

I have also heard that automake 1.6[.x] is *not* incompatible with
automake 1.4; if "automake --version" says you have a 1.5[.x] release,
try replacing it with the latest 1.6[.x] release (which appears to be
1.6.2).
