My first suggestion would be to ask Red Hat whether they've managed to
break configure scripts.  A Google search for

	"no acceptable ld found" "red hat"

found

and a further search for "no acceptable ld found" saw

which indicates that somebody saw the same error on RH 7.0 when
configuring some other piece of software; that test does *NOT* come from
any code we wrote, so the chances are good that there is at least one
other piece of software out there that will give you the same problem. 
I don't know what the cause of the problem is.
