Open Makefile.nmake, find the line which says "echo Making register.c"
After that there's a choice between using Python or using sh to generate
register.c. Using sh to generate the register.c file never gives an error.
You might have to edit the file slightly to make it work.

I have the feeling that this only happens when recompiling Ethereasl. First
time compiles usually work, but later compiles fail. But I have no hard
proof for this feeling.
