In packet dumps, not all spaces are created equal.  Some of them
separate the offset in the packet from the packet data, some of them
separate the hex byte values from one another, some separate the hex
byte values from the ASCII dump, and some appear in the middle of the
ASCII dump.

As such, I don't see an alternative, at least not when scanning with
lex.
