I'd be happy if I could change the color on a singe line when I detect an abnormal condition.  I understand that adding filtering may be a development issue, but is there a simple way to change the color on a single line?

I have no problem with editing the source files to add the required lines of code for the conditions I want to see identified.  I realize you'll want a more formal mechanism built into ethereal, where explicit conditions are earmarked as errors, filter support is included, the user can specify colors, the user can request not to invoke this functionality, etc.  For the short (i.e. immediate) term I was hoping there would be some code I could add that would color only a single line.

That sounds too specific.

In what fashion is it too specific?

Perhaps you could mark erroneous data red?

Or perhaps we could allow users to specify foreground and background
colors for them?
