Note that if you add a preferences-file item for it, that item can be
set from the command line with the "-o" flag.

This might be one advantage of having protocols register preferences
that specify a port (or list of ports) to use - implementing a
user-settable list of ports that way lets you not only change the list
of ports for protocol XXX from the GUI, it also lets you do it from the
command line (or by manually editing the preferences file).
