It would be nice if one of you automake wizards could put in some way to
build ethereal staticly. I used to be able to simply edit the makefile and
add -static in the appropriate place and then have it relink the executable.
It's not nearly so easy any more.

Even a --with-static-link configure option would be fine.

Yes, I know it builds a really big executable, but for some situations - it
is really nice being able to just carry around 1 executable to other
machines to be able to do a sniff on demand without having to worry about
gtk/etc. being installed.
