Got something to do with loadable module support - I have been fighting 
with the libtool things too - I think the official interface to
the libtool is "libtoolize" and not providing some special 
libtool/ltmain.sh etc in the CVS.

After i deleted everything from the ethereal source tree (libtool/ltmain.sh)
etc and setting appropriate symlinks (which it seems libtoolize does also)
it worked for me .. (libtool 1.3.3-7 debian package -> Slink backport)

The libtool things are currently not nice ..
