So you're using Berkeley "make" rather than GNU "make"?

Hmm.  I'd installed GNU "make" because, as I remember, I had some
problem with Berkeley "make" (perhaps it got upset at the "-include"
that the "automake"-generated Makefile does; I'll have to see if I still
have the patch I sent to the Berkeley folk ages ago to add support for
"include-without-a-damn-dot-at-the-beginning-just-like-SV-make" to
Berkeley "make"); presumably, as you're working on the port/package,
you're using a Makefile set up to work with bmake.

I wonder whether the guy who had a problem on Solaris 7 was using the
Sun "make"; I'll see what happens if I use that here.
