GTK+, not "automake" 1.4a, supplies the definition for AM_PATH_GTK; when
you install GTK+, it should install "gtk.m4" in some place such as
"/usr/local/share/aclocal".

I'm primarily using FreeBSD at home, and using Solaris at work, but it
finds AM_PATH_GTK in "/usr/local/share/aclocal"; how was GTK+ installed
on your machine?  Perhaps it didn't install "gtk.m4".
